ON AFFIRMATIONS

What happens in times of insecurity and self-doubt? When your mind circles back to thoughts of scarcity, of feeling like you’re not enough? What stories does your mind create about your experiences and how others perceive you? How do these thoughts colour your beliefs about yourself? Where in your body do you store this heaviness?

It’s easy to get caught up in the storm of spiralling, anxious thoughts. One of the ways I cope with my own insecurity and imposter syndrome is to use affirmations in my meditation practice. Affirmations are a tool to invite in more self-love and confidence. Affirmations are statements that reframe our negative beliefs. They help us to change the way we speak to and think about ourselves.

It’s important to note that this is different from masking our negative beliefs with statements like “be happy,” and “just relax.” Rather, we acknowledge that we have thoughts of scarcity, limiting thoughts and beliefs. We sit with the discomfort, and see how it feels to reframe the stories we hold in our mind. This is not an easy practice, especially if you’re conditioned to speak to yourself negatively. Some days will feel more difficult that others. Know that this is part of the process. Know that wherever you are today, is where you are supposed to be.

See a short affirmation meditation practice here.

Some affirmations to consider:

I am strong

I am smart

I am capable

I belong here

…..

I am deserving of blessings

I am worthy

I am enough
